Actually I think you’ll find our Mummy Blogs are AWESOME

Evening All,

too fab

I hadn’t planned on writing tonight .I’d planned on reading Vogue (Kate Mid edition) and eating an entire packet of cookies. But then I made the mistake of reading a blog that is currently doing the rounds on social media, for all the wrong reasons. I’m not linking the blog title, author or promoting anything that gives the sourpuss author any more views but this is the gist of her post:

IMG_3084

She goes on to say Mummy bloggers are a load of old crap, no one gives a shit what we write about, and basically pisses all over the concept of mummy bloggers. She further brandishes things by admitting she was a skim reader of other peoples blogs so she didn’t write genuine comments on posts (a BIG NO NO in our blogging world) and then admits she was basically a PR Whore and shames any of us who are lucky enough to be offered the opportunity to review a product now and then.

I had a whole rant ready to get down on screen about this. I was friggin livid when I read the post and the only person I had to vent to was the cat (Sam is probably going to be very glad he was at work this evening). Then I spoke to some of my lovely fellow bloggers – my tribesters! And it calmed me down and made me think so what if this negative and bitter old trout has spouted all this rubbish. We know why we blog, we know why we love it and we all respect each other.

spread love

I think the reason I was so annoyed, apart from the obvious, is that I am fiercely protective of my blog. Josh, Sam, and my Blog – my three great passions in life (closely followed by shoes, unicorns and prosecco – c’mon you gotta smile at that). The post I read was not a personal attack on me, but it was an attack on a community I’ve been welcomed in to, one I feel a part of, one where we all support each other, champion each other. I feel fortunate I’ve made some genuine friends on my blogging adventure so far.

More importantly, despite what this dickwad (sorry but there is no other word.. OK how about Cockwomble – Our Rach I think I can thank you for teaching me that one) says I think my blog is being read and is helping others. OK, so I don’t have 5000 followers or subscribers, but the people who do follow me appreciate my honesty, how I lay my heart out on the line and in a way, they connect with me. And to me that is amazing.

So me getting so furious was not the answer. That’s not me; anyone who reads my blog, or who knows me, knows I am a positive and happy girl. And I won’t be brought down by some negative, bitter idiot who I guarantee secretly loves her blog and wrote such a hideous article in the hope of it going viral, getting her name out there and thus promoting the blog in question (hypocrite). I respect that our blogs are our places to vent our personal opinions, and respect each other for that. But to me this wasn’t an opinion, it was a pathetic attack on a blogging community that stands for exactly the opposite of what she’s written about; we support, we relate to each other, we sympathise, we reassure, we care and most importantly we love to write.

good-vibes

So my personal opinion is this. I think us Mummy Bloggers fucking rock. And I think you know that. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but seriously…. this one of yours is bullshit. I hope you manage to get rid of your bitter negativity.

And to my lovely readers, and fellow bloggers – I friggin love ya and I’m sorry for ranting but I feel protective and proud of you, and our blogs!

Big love – now going to get back to reading Vogue xxx

  1. I think the kind of person who would have wrote this is someone who just isn’t interested in kids or having babies. (I haven’t seen the post personally, correct me if I’m wrong.) To an outsider who doesn’t care about that stuff it probably is boring because you can’t empathise with the situation, in the same way I would find a blog about gaming uninteresting…that doesn’t mean NO ONE wants to hear it. Now that I’m a parent, these kinds of blogs are not only my favourite kind but also the reason I started blogging in the first place.

As you say, clearly trying to seem “controversial” to grab people’s attention which is LAME. Oh, and guess what? I don’t know who that person is and yet I have read this blog about being a mommy more than once 👍🏻👋🏻

    Full of love xx

      1. That is even more crazy then?

I mean I know my friends get annoyed when I tell them the same story about how my little girl (who is one) has learnt to call me Lucy rather than Mummy, but hearing other people’s stories, and fresh perspectives, is all part of the fun!

        It’s a way to rebrand herself though I guess…

  2. Wow! Clearly there are some back issues there, you don’t write such negativity and bash all mummy bloggers unless you have a few issues. I almost feel sorry for her.

You say it so well though, this is a beautiful community. I had never read a blog when I started mine, I just heard of this thing called blogging and started! I then began to meet other bloggers and was blown away by the sense of community, the advice, the support and the love. I can not vouch for all bloggers out there, but the ones I know and interact with (like you) are all beautiful, genuine and talented and I am proud to be a mummy blogger! YOU ROCK! #dreamteam

    1. I couldn’t agree more my lovely – it’s a great community hence my anger at this bitter person trying to be negative about it!! Thank you so much for your lovely comment xx #DreamTeam

  3. What a jealous bitter person, I’m new to blogging and love it! I’ve gone in to it with the mindset even if it’s a document for me of my sons childhood then so be it! Why do people thrive so much on bringing others down ? X

  4. Oh gosh. I am on hols this week but just had a quick ‘check in’ because, like you, my blog means SO much to me. I am afraid I have also faced negativity from people who think I am trying to be KMiddy (could NOOOTTTT be further from the truth) and have had a few days when I’ve felt really down. I didn’t know about this blog but it sounds absolutely as though it’s written by someone who’s having a pretty hard time. Otherwise, why do it? Thanks for posting this. And I hope you enjoyed the Vogue edition with NOT ME in it! 🙂 xxxx

  5. She just struck me as someone who had nothing better to say… I love my blog. I write for me and for Eden to look at when she’s older. Meh… the only blog that sucks is a blog about how everyone else’s blogs suck…

  6. well said, what a COCKWOMBLE this person is! you are so right, we blog because we enjoy it why attack people for doing something they enjoy. this person is obviously full of negativity and we don’t need people like that in our lives!! LOVE your blog xx #dreamteam xx

  7. Hi Fi, WOW! Is all I can say! This Cockwomble or Dickwad (loving’ both names!) obviously has major issues in their life that has nothing to do with blogging or Mummy blogs. She would probably benefit from a few years of professional counselling too.

Her post was a fine example of things best left unsaid. There was no need to share such negativity with fellow bloggers (obviously she is a blogger, just not a very nice one). We all accept the fact that not everyone will enjoy reading our blogs and that’s fine, it’s a personal choice, but can you imagine what the world would be like if we went and verbally attacked anything and everything we didn’t like, enjoy or agree with?

I think this person needs an awful lot of positive vibes sent their way and maybe a little hug!

    xx

  8. So agree, she’s clearly just bitter and referring to her own insecurities. Also, probably an ulterior motive like u said, she’s dying to go viral! Thanks for sharing and sticking up for us all! #dreamteam

  9. Great post and a great sentiment. I read the post in question and yes I think she knew it would go viral and I am sure that was part of her reason for writing it. I also think she just snapped, but I guess I would have to subscribe to see what she does next and I won’t be doing that, she could have had a point, but she wrapped it up in so much anger and bitterness she it was lost and instead she just belittled a group of people that she is part of, no matter how much she protests it. #dreamteam

  10. I love love love this amazing community! Even more than “shoes, unicorns and prosseco”!! 😉 I’m sorry that this person clearly didn’t hook up with the right crowd as anyone that has experienced the fun, support and #bloglove as we all do would not be able to write a post like this. She was clearly very unlucky and missed out on an amazing experience. High five and possibly a chest bump to you for this fantastic post! 😘 xx

  11. Well said! I haven’t seen (or head about until this post) the original blog you’re replying too, but, your reply is SPOT ON. You’re right to say such great things about the mummy-blogger community! Don’t get me wrong, I still feel like a teeny-tiny-wincy little fish in a very big sea *emphasis* when it comes to the mummy blogger / blogging community-in-general BUT what I have experienced has been brilliant!
Fuck that woman and her hate for the mummy blogger community!

  12. I haven’t read or even heard about this post so if her plan was to go viral then it hasn’t worked! Ha! I’m guessing that she is from over the pond though going by the ‘mommy’ references? The thing is that it is a very different community over there to what we have here in the UK. For starters, they’ve been at it for a lot longer than we have so maybe that explains why so many of them are jaded by the very concept of ‘mommy blogging’. I can’t help but think that there is more to this post than just causing a bit of controversy. Either way, I certainly won’t let it burst my own fabulous ‘mummy blogger’ bubble and you shouldn’t either!

  13. What an idiot! Of course mummy blogs aren’t for everyone. If you’re not a mum or don’t have an interest of kids reading about our trials and tribulations of parenthood would be dull. Again it sounds almost like a jealousy and to provide a reaction. #bloggerclubuk

  14. I think when someone is being this negative and mean spirited then it says more about them then the community she is critcising. She is clearly a negative trout (like you say) and perhaps even a bit jealous. We need to take everything she says with a pinch of salt and if anything perhaps feel a bit sorry for her as she is clearly very unhappy or she did that post as a desperate attempt to get more readers! Positivity all the way! #bloggerclubuk

  15. I love this post and response to *that* blog post – I have to admit my reaction on reading it was not so much anger and “how dare you” but feeling sad that someone felt the need to attack others in that way. Some of the advice she gave was helpful but it got lost in the vitriol that came across instead. That quote about “spread love as thick as you would Nutella” is wonderful – I shall definitely remember that one. The world would be a much better place if we could just support others. We don’t have to like everyone’s blog but nor do we have to read them. Great response and well said my lovely 🙂

  16. Why do we have to be blogging for any other reason than just to vent about stuff and connect with other people? Isn’t that enough?! Eurgh. I hate negative shit like that. I read SO MANY blogs on a regular basis and am so grateful for the link-ups that take me straight to a plethora of posts by people I genuinely care about and enjoy reading content from. This woman can get fucked. If she truly believes that’s how it is then she sure as hell isn’t part of the blogging community that I know and love! #BloggerClubUK

  17. I read ‘that’ blog post having actually enjoyed some of her previous mum blog writings and promptly unfollowed her. I get that she had done points, was going through some stuff or whatever but the entire tone was just mean and there’s never any need for that. This post however I love, love, love and def didn’t skim xx

  18. I’ve read the post you’re talking about, as has everyone in the blogosphere by now. It’s total click bait and you have to admit that it’s worked. Everyone is talking about her and reading her post. I do think towards the end of the post she made some valid points – don’t feel like you have to post certain things for money, do what you want etc but the first part was pretty offensive!
Thanks for linking up to #BloggerClubUK 🙂

  19. That article has been popping up on my twitter feed the past week or so. I too was a somewhat livid while reading it, I like my “sucky” mom blog, thank you very much. Like you said, I think it was mostly written to go viral and get her blog noticed. I am also by no means one of those bloggers with a big following, heck I don’t really consider myself a blogger since I don’t do it consistently, but I didn’t appreciate the tone she had in that post. Yes some of her points were valid but what a horrible way to gain attention for her blog! #stayclassy

  20. I am so glad that you didn’t include her blog name and anything that links to her post, or blog for that matter. I mistakenly clicked on the offending blog post via another site and although was interested to read what had offended so many people, I jumped off as quickly as possible. Who wants to add to her stats right? I think it’s appalling that someone would write such things. This is a prime example of someone who likes to pull other people down to try and lift themselves higher. Thank you so much for linking up to the #DreamTeam x

  21. Completely agree Fi, she definitely wrote that post in order to go viral. As you’ve said, the Mum community has been so supportive and helpful since I entered the blogging world, what she is saying doesn’t even make sense. I love this, “We know why we blog, we know why we love it and we all respect each other,” because it’s spot on. We all have our opinions but respecting each other for that is what I’ve learned in particular in the Mum blogging community. Really great post, thank you for sharing with #StayClassy!

  22. I’ve read a couple of responses to THAT post now and its great to see everyone’s different opinions on the subject. Its sparked quite a debate! I actually agreed with some of what she said – about having an authentic voice, not selling out etc. But I didn’t think she was talking to me, I didn’t think she was talking to the majority of us to be honest. I thought she was talking to herself mostly and had regrets and things she needed to figure out. Its great that we can all pitch in on this and respect different opinions #stayclassy
