Monday Motivation – C’mon Girls Build Each Other Up

Morning my lovelies,

Now you probably don’t need Monday motivation today as it’s a Bank Holiday! I for one plan on having a very lazy day of blogging, cuddles with baby boy who is 5 months old today, and more thank likely, eating ludicrous amounts of chocolate.

On to todays Monday Motivation, as ever for the wonderful Candid Cuddles Linky with Cuddle Fairy.

I came up with today’s post yesterday whilst doing my usual shameful read of the Mail Online. The top story was about Kate Middleton and her surprise Vogue cover. I was thrilled to see this; I love Kate, I think she’s classy and down to earth (having met her I can vouch for this – it’s a long story but we rescued a puppy together; read the story here). And I love fashion and Kate’s style so I think this is fabulous.

Kate looking natural and beautiful

Unfortunately for Kate the story was written by renowned miserable and bitchy journalist Liz Jones. I was so disappointed to read her bitter and frankly jealous accompanying article. In it she slated Kate’s style, the choice of the shoot location (Kate’s home in Norfolk; nothing wrong with Norfolk may I add), and went on to make catty statements such as “It’s hard to blame Vogue, as I can’t imagine Kate was easy to handle” to “she looks like Meryl Streep in Out of Africa”. It was a bitter, jealous and catty article and it infuriated me!

I like to think of myself as a girls girl and when I saw the headline and photo I thought “Yes Kate, one for the girls, she’s made the cover of Vogue”! I thought it was bloody fabulous. And the same would go for any good news my friends would deliver; success at work, looking gorgeous despite just having had three hours sleep, getting engaged or pregnant, any good news; I would be happy for them! I know all us girls can be catty, and lets be honest we can. But overall I like to think of myself as a nice girl and real advocate of women. The best testament to this I can think of is once I complimented a girl on her top and asked her where it was from, and she happily told me. This was the response of a girls girl and I loved that! Believe it or not there are a lot of girls who would either ignore me if I’d asked them, or lied so you couldn’t copy them.

It’s true, girls are competitive. We’re all always striving to be the best we can be, looking beautiful (which we all are might I remind you), being a good mother, giving off the impression we’ve got our shit together even if behind the scenes we’re having a slight meltdown and eating cookie dough straight from the tub .But I can certainly say for all the girls in my life, we’re there for each other and support each other. My girlfriends are there when I want to rant about anything and everything, my mummy friends are there at 4am when the baby just won’t sleep, my blogging gals are there supporting me and my posts rather than seeing me as competition. And that’s how it should be; we should all stand together and support each other rather than being even remotely like that poor excuse of a journalist, tearing down a young woman who is beautiful and who she has made it quite clear, through her poor excuse of writing, that she is jealous of.

I love my girls. I love my sisters, I love my friends, I love my blogging girls, some of whom I’ve become very close to and am eternally thankful for their support and encouragement ( Rach, SarahMaddy and Becky in particular). I love my NCT girls and the fact we are constantly there for each other and encouraging each other through this crazy journey into Mummyhood. I love women who are strong, kind, and support one another. Yes we all judge, it’s human nature, but there is no need to be nasty, as this stupid journalist is.  I’m grateful for the strong and inspirational women in my life, both those I know personally and those whom I admire that are in the public eye.

I think Kate looks great; good on her for not being clad head to toe in Prada, which most of us can’t afford, and for looking natural, comfortable in her own skin as we all should be. Lets celebrate each other, build each other up. You may not get on with every woman you every meet but that doesn’t mean you need to tear them down. Just think to yourself, what would Beyonce do 😉

Have a great bank holiday girls; eat cake, have a bubble bath and do some online shopping. Treat yourself! You’re worth it (Oh so cringe, but oh so true)!

Hugs to you all xxx

  1. Congratulations on making it to the finals of the MAD awards! You must feel amazing.I think your quotes are really fitting… I don’t think I noticed the pulling down of women by women as much as I do now that Little Button is well… becoming a Little lady. Where has the all-for-one and one-for-all gone. #CandidCuddles

  2. All so true (and I can’t stand Liz Jones either – miserable witch)! When I’m at work, if a woman comes in wearing a great pair of shoes or an awesome bag or a really cute raincoat, I tell her I love it! We all need a boost sometimes; it makes us feel good! I dye my hair a really deep red and it always makes me feel awesome inside when someone compliments me on it, so I like to pay that feeling forward as much as I can. Hurray for all the nice girls; the mean ones can go sit by themselves and be pouty and sullen so they don’t get wrinkles or some shit (I don’t know). X #candidcuddles

  3. Liz Jones and Katie Hopkins et al seem to have made a career about making other people look small. As soon as I see their byline I stop reading.

Life would be so much nicer if we were all kinder to each other. Congregations and good luck for the MADS!

  4. Aw your posts always make me smile and I couldn’t agree more. Over the past year as a mum, I’ve met some amazingly supportive people but also the competitive types who are constantly comparing their babies to mine, and judging every decision you are making, if it differs from theirs. That made me a bit sad that they can’t just support other mums without commenting… Anyways love the positivity of this post and thank you for being lovely to me too – so amazing to meet other supportive bloggers xx #candidcuddles

  5. You’re so right. I hate the whole competitive girl thing. I find that girls can be scarily mean and it makes me worry for my daughter. However, I have also got some wonderful women in my life who are just fabulous and I love them all dearly so I’ll hope for that for her too. I try my hardest to be nice to everyone, and think that the culture of ‘shaming’ is vile. I boycott the daily fail absolutely because the stories are so horrid and the sidebar of shame can easily suck you in and tries to make you judge others on just about anything. Rah!! 😀 Thanks for linking up with us! #bigpinklink

  6. Fab post. All very true. I’m a strong believer in all of this (but I must admit I’m having to keep my competitiveness in check during awards season! 😂)

Best of luck with the MADs! x

  8. YES! I love this so much! I love when women support and encourage and love each other! Honestly if we stuck together more instead of slating one another we would get so much done! #bloggerclubUK

  9. YES! Great post and so true! I am addicted to the Daily Mail online, it is like my dirty little secret, but their articles on Kate and Wills drive me insane. They are so hard on them, one minute they aren’t royal enough and then they are too royal, then they are work shy and then they are leaving their kids behind to work. Grrrr. Make your mind up Daily Mail. I really agree with what you say, we should be supporting each other! Yaaay to sisterhood! #bloggerclubuk

  10. I couldn’t agree with you more! Strong women build each other up & help each other. That article would really annoy me too – there’s no need to pick on someone. It’s wonderful how we can support each other as bloggers & succeed together. Thank you for the lovely mention! And thanks so much for sharing with #candidcuddles xx

  11. What a wonderful post. As a mum to 2 teen girls and being brought up a very female-dominated family myself, I can relate to every word of this. Women like the lady who wrote this just make pity them – they ooze insecurities and bitterness. Much nicer to help, build up and appreciate one another #stayclassy

  12. LOVE THIS. Completely agree and I always say the same thing, that we should support one another and be ONE. Cliche but two heads are better than one. A million voices coming together to support the same cause is what actually changes the world, not one person being bitchy and jealous. Thanks so much for sharing with #StayClassy!

  13. oh i bloody love this! i’m always making a point to being kind to everyone but especially fellow women, bloggers, entrepreneurs etc as we’re torn down too much by the media!
what a pleasure this was to read!

  14. So well said! I believe if you’re insecure enough to tear other women down, you should perhaps spend your time working on that rather than being bitchy! How can we expect men to take us seriously when we are constantly scratching each other’s eyes out! This journalist is doing more damage to her own career than she will ever do to Kate – it’s hard to take a journalist seriously when they come off as insecure little girls
Thanks for linking up to #BloggerClubUK 🙂

  15. Oh how I love this post! I hate the fact that women can be so damn caddy and just plain mean. And it starts so young. Like I am talking preschool. When I see a little girl being mean to my little monster M I swear I want to find her mother and investigate the reason behind why that little girl is the way she is. Already caring about what she looks like and if she has better clothes or longer hair. WHO THE F CARES! I think as long as you aren’t a menace and mean to society than be who you want to be but BE NICE. I am glad that my little monster M has a good head on her shoulders and usually just rolls her eyes and walks away…never giving those girls a second thought. So far, she has never let it change who she is. Great quotes and post. #candidcuddles …I am sharing this across all my social media.

  16. Urgh, the Daily Mail is an evil rag, and the worst thing is, they love us all saying it as it gives them more publicity. I heard recently that it was the bestselling newspaper in the UK and I nearly handed in my passport. I can’t believe that some girls wouldn’t even tell you where their top was from in case you bought the same one-does that even happen???? Or am I just lucky that I’ve never met these people?! #StayClassy

  17. Love this! Women can honestly be their own worst enemies sometimes. Stop worrying about what others do/say/have and just do you and get on with it. I too read the MailOnline but I have idea why – it’s so bitchy and full of misrepresentations!
I’m running a Girl Gang guest post series – take a look if you fancy it! #stayclassy
